A fellow paranormal enthusiast on tumblr just asked what people thought about the use of psychic abilities in investigation. Here’s what I responded with. Just figured I’d share.
I think it’s important to keep them seperate but equal. Like collect scientific evidence and discern whatever one may discern using your abilities and if one informs the other than that’s great. Sometimes, however, I think one can inform the other, so like say you heard something in one room that you originally didn’t feel a particularly strong reaction to. That might be a good time to do an evp recording or something. Or say recordable phenomenon occurs a medium might then go into the room to see who or what might be causing that activity. I think both are great, it’s just good to have a balance, because this field by it’s very nature is a balance of the metaphysical and the scientific, because everyone has their own experiences and can get whatever psychic impression they have from a place, but unless they have documented evidence, it could all be just stories. On the flipside if you have no base in the metaphysical, then you end up like TAPS who ignore a lot of potential activity as well as just dump the evidence on the clients lap and says this what you have. It probably can’t harm you but who knows, have fun. That’s not helping people in the least. That’s only telling them they’re not crazy.
